Black Fae Day Presents Fairytale Gala: Land vs Sea
Oklahoma City, OK March 12th, 2022 – Black Fae Day presents Fairytale Gala: Land vs Sea, taking place at Cha’le Gardens on May 14th-15th, 2022. Black Fae Day celebrates Black individuals in fantasy with solutions that inspire unity and positive visibility.
Black Fae Day’s founder, Jasmine La Fleur, is proud to bring Fairytale Gala: Land vs. Sea to Riverdale, GA for the first time. Fairytale Gala: Land vs. Sea takes place on May 15th, 2022 and is a curated gala event featuring a ballroom, pool with poolside cabanas, lake front views, food, drinks, activities, fantasy vendors, and more. This event is open to adults only, as Black Fae Day hopes create opportunities for play amongst grown folks.
Fairytale Gala: Land vs. Sea is split into two interactive experiences, The Land and Sea Experience. Fantasy costumes are the required dress code. Ticket options include access to either the Land or Sea Experience, or an All-Access Pass for the entire event day.
During the Sea Experience, attendees may: learn how to swim with a fin and tail from mermaid school, Mer-Cademy instructors, enjoy a cottagecore picnic in the gardens, or watch Black knights battle for honor. Professional and novice merfolk in the community will be swimming as well. Knights of Wakanda, a nationally competing trope of armored medieval knights, will demonstrate their combat arts at noon. The Masquerade Fantasy Ball is the highlight of the Land Experience. For the night’s entertainment, local drag artist KoochieKoochieKu will host a drag show with other local artists. Guests are encouraged to use the photo stations and props provided by Clique Creative as well as enjoy fantasy themed hors d'oeuvres and beverages are provided by bespoke caterer, Fraiche Bespoke Catering. As an additional treat, black fantasy vendors from across the nation will be selling their wares all day. For instance, Queenly Conjure of New Orleans and Lifted Auras of Hawaii are featured vendors among many others.
La Fleur, with the support of her partner Carlos Williams Jr. , created the first ever Black Fae Day event on May 8th, 2021, which garnered global participation by Black creatives as well as the support of their allies. With an estimated 100,000 tweets, the associated hashtag (#blackfaeday) made it to at least #2 trending on Twitter on the day of the event. Activity of the hashtag was also high on other social media platforms and creative outlets, such as TikTok and Instagram. The movement was such a success among fantasy enthusiasts, it has evolved into an annual celebration, held every second Saturday of May.
“Black Fae Day was an experience of beauty, joy, and celebration of what is possible for our family’s collective imagination. It was so important for us to be able to create, play, have fun, and frolic together. Our day was truly intergenerational and inspiring”- Joy Tabernacle
While the hashtag movement, #blackfaeday, will be in full effect May 14th, virtually, the community’s first official park meet up will be held at Freedom Park on May 14th from 4PM- 8PM. This all-ages event is a free opportunity to frolic with like-minded fantasy enthusiasts in the Atlanta metro. Updates on event activities can be found on Instagram and Facebook @blackfaedayofficial or on the website www.blackfaeday.com
